Solomon Kane: a Weird Tales legend

Solomon Kane movie posterWhile Robert E. Howard’s most famous literary creation is the warrior-king Conan, who debuted in WEIRD TALES back in 1932, the pulp-fiction master had more than one great anti-hero in his arsenal. An earlier WEIRD TALES series starred Solomon Kane, a Puritan warrior who traveled the globe battling the evils of the 16th century with sword, knife, and pistol. In 2008, Kane will get his own Hollywood blockbuster starring James Purefoy (Rome, A Knight’s Tale) — and director Michael J. Bassett has just released the first look at the movie’s teaser poster.

For those who’d like to get acquainted with the character’s origins, Wildside Press is offering a great special deal. The hardcover edition of Shadow Kingdoms: The Weird Works of Robert E. Howard, Vol. 1, collects Howard’s first two dozen WEIRD TALES stories — including the first three Solomon Kane adventures originally published in 1928-1929. Through December 20, the book is marked down from $35 to just $24.99 — or, an even better deal for the truly adventurous, a four-volume hardcover set of Weird Works featuring all seven of the Kane WT stories, plus the first three Conan stories and much more, for just $89.99!
